Seat's MPV jumbo family is among the top in its class when it comes to resales values. With seat key battery on sale the jumbo family MPV is even better.
There are many reasons why your key fob might not function correctly, including dead battery water damage, receiver module issues, or signal interference. This article will walk you through the steps to get it back in working order.
Water Damage
If your key fob for the seat Alhambra is able to withstand a wash cycle or a dip in the ocean or a pool, then it's equipped with a waterproof chip. But be careful not to do this often as excessive exposure to water can increase the likelihood of the key fob becoming damaged. If the key fob stops functioning after exposure to clean tap water or rain, then just remove the battery, clean the electronic component with paper towel and let it dry completely before putting it back in. In case of exposure to salt or soapy water it is recommended to clean the chip with isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner prior to trying to put the battery back in.
Faulty Receiver Module
If you have tried a new button cell battery and the key fob cannot be locked or unlocked, it's likely that your receiver module has developed a fault. The positive side is that this is a simple repair that is inexpensive, you can remove the battery 12 volts for a few minutes (first take off the negative cable and then press the horn button numerous times) to remove any remaining electricity, and then connect it in reverse order e.g. Positive first and then negative.
ESP Warning Light – If the ESP symbol blinks, it is normal. It indicates that you're driving on terrain that has poor traction. This could be due to gravel, snow or surface water. If the ESP warning light is continuously flashing, it means there is a fault within the system. It is best to be detected using an iCarsoft i908 Seat OBD Code Reader kit which will give you a specific fault description.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead coin battery is one of the most common reasons for the keys for the seat to cease to function. The key fob contains an insignificant button cell battery that keeps it powered. Replace it with a brand new battery that has the same size, voltage and specifications as the original. If you're replacing the battery, be sure to remove all metal retaining clips from the back of the key fob. Also ensure that the contacts are free of corrosion.
If the key fob has been exposed water, like rain or soapy water, it's recommended that you take the battery off and clean the electronic chip with alcohol isopropyl or an electronic cleaner prior to inserting the new battery. The chip could be permanently damaged by water. If the key fob still isn't working after replacing the battery, it may be necessary for you to replace the key fob.
Faulty Receiver Module
If your key fob has stopped working after replacing the battery, but it did not function, or stopped working suddenly your receiver module might have encountered a problem. The receiver module is responsible for receiving the radio frequency signals that are sent by your remote key fob and transform them into electrical commands that are then acted on by other modules in your car.
If the receiver module is damaged it will not be able to accept any commands from your remote key fob. In this instance you'll be required to visit a service for reprogramming your key fob and a new receiver module.
The key fob is sealed with rubber to keep water from getting into the electronic chip. If you immerse the key fob in salty or soapy water, the chip inside may be damaged. You can try to clean the chip by rub it with isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner, however If your key fob does not work after this, then you'll need to buy a new one.
If the keys are connected but the receiver module has developed a fault, you can try to reboot all of the electronics on board by disconnecting the battery at 12 volts for a short period of time. Connect the battery in reverse (negative cable to positive first). This will reset all electronics onboard and will restore their functionality.
A malfunctioning electronic chip

The key fob is equipped with a tiny chip which transmits the signal from the key to the receiver module each time the key is used. If this signal does not match the one stored by the car, the immobilizer will disable the engine and stop the vehicle from beginning. If the key fob doesn't work and you aren't able to reprogram it, it could be due to a malfunctioning microchip.
The chip in the key fob is not an indefinite part of the device and may need to be replaced in order to function again. The best method to do this is to remove the key from its housing and then using a pin needle to make contact with each of the clips made of metal. If they are corroded or broken, you will have to replace them to allow the remote control to function. Make sure that the replacement batteries are the same size, voltage and specification as the original.
